On tonight’s show we feature the work of Tanya, JakiB, Margaret, Caterina, and Simone…oh boy, oh boy, oh boy ,what a line up !
Firstly, its Tanya’s “Y am I me” printed work, Tanya says “it’s my boys and cats, that have got me through my daily living”
Tanya’s “ outside my door “activity says “that the keys and the tree are the key to happiness and I chose gold, snow is for xmas “as she says “likes so many of us ,we just want to spend xmas with our families “
JakiB’s work features her “Hanging around” coat hanger artwork and “outside my door” activity. Jaki says” I am not sure if the scene on the hanger shows up, I was trying to paint the same scene, one in the dark and one in the light. Outside my door design is an imaginary road that’s goes through the countryside and climbs a hill where you can see for miles around”
Margaret’s written Post card designs feature her redesigned back garden, her artwork for the stamp design is very Autumn.
Here is Caterina’s landscape.
Now Simone’s very festive work, well its nearly that time again!
We have asked everyone to consider sending us some feedback about this creative help, this is massively important to help us secure continual funding to now keep this going.
We have received this from 3 people so far…thank you , so we thought we would share this everyone.
Marie and Peter said, “It has been an absolute lifesaver for Peter and I during the seven months of being confined to the house.”
Margaret said “I have been really pleased to receive the art projects and materials, from you and Andrew. It has helped to concentrate my mind on something useful and forget the bad news about the Coronavirus., for a short time.
The feedback has been very useful and also knowing that you and Andrew are only a phone call away.
And finally JakiB sent us an email to say “I have helped out at a few groups over the years, and this has shown me the importance of groups to very many people who are elderly, disabled in some way, or socially isolated for a number of reasons. The groups are a lifeline, not just for the social aspect but for the stimulation and motivation they can afford. Sadly, because of Covid 19 these people have been deprived of attendance at the groups they valued so much. Gorton Visual Arts is one group that is continuing throughout the lockdowns. Ian has managed to keep it going and connected online.
I was introduced to the group during lockdown by another long-standing member. I was inspired to try artwork by her e-mail descriptions of the things she was doing. She told Ian and Andrew about me and he immediately included me in his group and sent me materials to use. The group provides connection to other people by viewing their work online, which I enjoy looking at. It also provides a sense of contact with the outside world during this long spell of social isolation. I am no stranger to social isolation, as being deaf, socialising has always been a challenge. But at present it is made worse by the need to stay away from friends and family. Doing the artwork whiles away many hours and takes my mind off any anxieties caused by the news which concentrates on the worst scenarios and can be very depressing.
Ian sends out various ideas to work on with the simple materials that are needed to complete them. Although you don’t have to do these little projects but can just enjoy doing your own work, the projects offer a challenge and stimulation as you try to think how to tackle them. They are also something to focus on rather than just trying to think up your own ideas. Ian also provides feedback on any of the work that you send him, and this is very helpful.
I am aware how hard Ian and Andrew work not only to keep the group going and in touch, but to access funding to enable it to survive. We at the group obviously hope it can continue as we value it very highly.
