“Munition”Project

The project has captured the group’s imagination, the scaled down layout drawings are nearing completion and the colour work for the individual banners is underway. The final size for the banners is 1200mm x 600mm. This project as created much group discussion about the aims and the final designs, which l consider being healthy, in terms of generating a much needed objective of creating a strong “sense of ownership” for each group member. Our group visit to the Central Library, Manchester is planned for the 19th October, where the group will have an opportunity to view a collection of original First World War Posters.
Over the coming weeks, we will outreach this project to local young people in local primary schools and develop partnerships with the local knitting groups, all working together to produce the banners.
A big thankyou to Angela Rawcliffe [Archives +Learning Officer}from the Central Library and Frank Rhodes from the Gorton Local History Group.
Just Recently the group have been nominated for a “Pride of Gorton “ Award the event held at Gorton Monastery on the 11th October.

Today back at the studio , layout scaled drawings were started developed from our research material , this is a slow process ,but is essential to develop a working drawing for each Banner design we intend to create .DSCF2727

Our Open Studio Event during the Gorton Carnival yesterday was a great success; we welcomed many visitors from the local community and delivered a free Screen printing Canvas Bag workshop, all participants were able to take their printed bags away.
Many local residents “young and old” engaged with the group members through discussion about the displayed work. This opportunity to stage this event has resulted in an increased awareness of the group’s delivered projects locally, increased the future group membership and partnerships with other local groups.
