“Munition” Project

Blue Minks “The banner man” plays in the background and someone shouts” IT’S A SWEAT SHOP IN ERE’! as the projects continues , and what a project, group, members taking work home to complete, extra work required to prepare, position, and cut to size the required material, but still we all push together to reach our collective goals .
Many group members have worked on each other’s banners, which as increased a “sense of shared togetherness’ which is a joy to watch.
Today the first glimpse of a potential finished designed banner that visually celebrates the Gorton Munition Workers during the First World War…..smashing!
Next week we continue to aim to complete more of the twelve banners we aimed to produce, that’s after we have held our monthly meeting in “The Dolphin Chippie” on Reddish Lane Gorton.
A big thankyou to Brenda Boyd and her local knitting groups, my wife Janice for their contribution to the production of the banners.
Some important Dates for the group, this coming Friday the 4TH December is the “BE PROUD AWARDS 2015”ceremony at Manchester Town Hall , the group have been shortlisted to win Best Creative Community Project ….wish us luck.
And on Friday the 11th December l have been asked to do a short presentation about the work we deliver with Gorton Visual Arts at the Whitworth Art Gallery as part of “Age Friendly Manchester “Culture Champions.

“Munition”Project

The project continues to make slow progress, some group members are taking work home to complete, and knitted /crocheting elements of the individual designed banners are now being completed by the various Gorton based knitting groups the project has outreached to. Each Monday the studio is experiencing a big effort to complete our combined task, the painted areas, textile areas, and lettering are beginning to formulate the banners ,whilst listening to 1970”s tunes ‘you just want to dance to, on the radio, l have been requested to play Blue Mink’s “The Banner Man” while we work……make’s sense to me.
