Working again at Thomas Regan and Abbey Court Tower Block on this project about the pubs along Hyde Road. As many a local resident will remember and frequented, these were places of huge importance to the social communities and working communities of Gorton. We are still looking for stories about the pubs of Hyde Road, as this is a project although painting based, there will be elements of stories and memories of these iconic Gorton pubs. So if you do have a story please contact us as we will be grateful of any input from people who used these pubs. We are using a color scheme which correlates with the brewery that supplied the pubs and as you can see they are very bright and vivid paintings . A lot of hard work and we are still not through half the pubs on Hyde Road, there was so many. Hard work but enjoyable and a pleasure to share this project with the residents of Thomas Regan and Abbey Court Tower Block.

Same Again Landlord!!  Haha. Another week of painting and outreach sessions with the residents of Thomas Regan and Abbey Court Tower Block. Continuing the painting of the pubs of Hyde road and engaging in open dialogue with the residents about the pubs and sharing memories. Each panel is part of a 5-piece artwork that depicts the pubs of Hyde road and the brewery, which supplied the pub with the beer, determines the colour pallet. It is a really enjoyable project and listening to the stories of the residents and their memories of pub that are no longer there, also engaging with older men and hearing their stories too. You get a real sense of the social impact these places had and how much a feeling of loss there is about these places too.

Abbey Court ,Tower Block Sessions.

Really going well, more residents taking part and much dialogue about the once surrounding pubs and the community engagement they offered.

Many gathered humorous stories, about local people developing friendships connected under one roof.

The first of our outreach sessions with the residents of Thomas Regan Court. Painting the pubs of Hyde Rd and creating a dialogue of memories of landmarks most of which are no longer here. We are gathering stories and painting sections of each pub using colors from the logos of the breweries that supplied each individual pub. The images of the pubs have been split into 5 sections and each member is given a section to paint, after which there are brought back together to formulate the original image, as shown by the three completed pub images in this post. As usual the group and the residents of Thomas Regan Court have taken this new challenge in their stride and already the common room of Thomas Regan was a real hive of productivity, laughter and brews. We are also asking anyone who has any stories about pubs on Hyde Rd to please get in touch or send us your story or stories, as these will be used within this project. Thank you.
